HONCODE MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION

You wish to support the HONcode initiative to improve the quality of medical and health information available on the WWW. Whether you are a healthcare web site developer or an information provider, remember that by formally applying for membership in the growing community of HONcode subscribers and displaying the HONcode active seal and logo, you commit yourself to observe the HONcode principles and to make the appropriate changes when required and to conform to HON`s decisions. Before filling your HONcode membership application make sure to read the HONcode Application Guidelines we developed for you in order to help you fulfil the HONcode principles requirements.

The HONcode membership is free. It is assumed that the Principles of the HONcode and its implications (make the appropriate changes when required and respect the principles) have been read and understood. You are hereby advised that your application may be rejected and that HON is not obligated to state the reasons for the rejection. Similarly, your HONcode accreditation may be terminated at any time by HON. You agree to respect HON`s decisions in these matters, and to remove the HONcode active seal if requested to do so by HON.

  • Step 1: Complete the HONcode questionnaire (on our website) which is the first step for the membership process. It will help verify if your Web site follows all the HONcode principles and, if not, to identify what modifications you must make before the review by the HONcode team.
  • Step 2: Go to the ``Next Step`` button at the end of the questionnaire. This will allow you to register your site, with a summary of its content, in the HONcode database.
  • Step 3: You will receive an email confirming the reception of your submission. Then we will visit and review your site. If it meets HONcode standards, we will confirm its registration in the HONcode and the MedHunt databases. If not, you will receive the comments of the HONcode team regarding the modifications you should make in order to comply with all the HONcode principles.
  • Step 4: At the end of the review process, if your website respects all the 8 principles, you receive the instructions to display the HONcode logo on your Web site. It includes a HONcode membership identification number (HONcode ID beginning with ``HON Conduct.....``). This HONcode ID is required for listing your site in the HONcode database and to permit efficient communications with HON.

The duration of the accreditation process depends on how the submitted website respects the eight HONcode principles. The more your website follows the guidelines, the faster the process will be. So, if after filling up the questionnaire, you know that you have some modifications to make, make them within the week following your submission, and before the HONcode team start to review your website.
