The European Society of Radiology (ESR) was founded in December 2005 by merging the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) and the European Association of Radiology (EAR), thus establishing a single house of radiology in Europe. The primary aim of the ESR is to organise the leading meeting in radiology, the annual European Congress of Radiology, by maintaining and increasing its excellence. In addition, its aim is to maximise the efficiency of both institutions, avoid duplication of effort, create synergies, as well as optimise the resources necessary for the tasks ahead.
