Exocrine pancreatic cancer is now the fifth leading cause of cancer death in the USA, Japan, and Europe. Recent advances in the multimodality management of pancreatic cancer have lowered the mortality rates and improved the survival after surgery. However, the overall 1-year survival rate after diagnosis of pancreatic cancer remains below 20%, and the overall 5-year survival rate is only 3%, with the majority of patients dying of metastatic cancer recurrence. Therefore, new agents and innovative approach to therapy are the important subjects for research.
