More than 150 installations at Acute Care and Imaging Center facilities reap benefits of tightly integrated IMPAXTM RIS/PACS

Agfa HealthCare, a leading provider of IT-enabled clinical workflow and diagnostic imaging solutions, announces today that there have been more than 150 IMPAXTM Radiology Information System (RIS) sales and installations, including Acute Care and imaging center facilities, in the United States and Canada since the solution was launched in 2004.

Agfa's IMPAX RIS/PACS helps facilities by providing faster billing turnaround times through automated insurance pre-certification workflow, faster patient scheduling, the elimination of manual and paper reporting and tracking activities, more efficient distribution of reports, the elimination of redundant technologist data entry, and improved marketing and business analytics via practice analysis reports.

Employing a single sign on for all RIS and PACS, as well as for the Reporting application, provides one fully synchronized solution for all users. The integration is based upon a fully optimized and validated configuration of data flow between all three applications. The workflow is designed to ensure RIS and PACS and Reporting act as one.

RIS database events such as patient and order messages are not forwarded to the PACS but rather are translated into IHE workflow transactions and applied to the PACS database. Real time state change messaging between applications assures accuracy.

"We have successfully dispelled the myth that workflow must be RIS- or PACS-driven in an integrated environment. Our IMPAX RIS uses a persona-based workflow in which user types determine the most efficient toolset and workflow for their particular tasks," said Lenny Reznik, Director of Enterprise Image and Information Systems, Agfa HealthCare. "Each and every installation is unique in its way and we are proud to have helped bring this advanced technology to so many facilities across the continent."

IMPAX is a complete Radiology IT solution that provides facilities with the ability to help drive increased patient throughput while maximizing staff efficiency and revenue generation.
