Dr. Allan Garland is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University, and Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a Senior Scholar of the Center for Health Care Research & Policy at Case Western Reserve University.
He earned a B.S. in physics from the University of Michigan, an M.A. in physics from Harvard University, and his M.D. from the University of Chicago. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at the University of Chicago.
He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Garland is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. Dr. Garland`s main research interest is Organizational Systems Engineering in the Intensive Care Unit. He is currently involved in studies to identify the optimal way to organize critical care, in order to improve patient outcomes, cost-effectiveness, and worker satisfaction and retention.
