The methods used to combat cancer are becoming increasingly advanced. For the last few years, it has been possible to locally treat cancer cells - in or near the tumour - by placing an isotope (radioactive source) in the patient’s body. This method is called ‘Brachytheraphy’.

The solution

In 2004, an innovative organization in the medical sector developed the concept for a very complex and reliable instrument to apply Brachytheraphy. This market party then searched for a partner to help turn this concept into a reality. They chose De Koningh thanks to its highquality production facilities and its medical certification. De Koningh then prepared the ‘Flexitron’ for production and is now producing the first series of products. With this innovative system, a radiologist is able to place two isotopes in the body at the same time. Furthermore, the system can double the number of sources administered to the human body, so that the treatment is much shorter and more effective.

From concept to production

The Flexitron concept combines precision technology, electrotechnology and sensor technology. De Koningh has translated this concept into a system ready for production. To make this possible, a special production department was set up where the individual components for the Flexitron are produced, the final test takes place and where the system is packaged.
