Disposable Oesophageal Probe, Haemodynamic Monitor, Oesophageal Doppler Monitor, Disposable Ultra-Sound Probes, with Nurse Led Optimization for Haemodynamic Optimization

Deltex Medical has developed and proven the CardioQTM haemodynamic monitor system, which it produces in the UK and markets around the world. The CardioQTM is used on patients undergoing surgery and on critically ill patients to monitor the heart`s performance.

By identifying and monitoring any problems early, the CardioQTM allows doctors to optimize the patient`s haemodynamic status. Treating patients using the CardioQTM technology has been proven to help patients recover more fully and more quickly. Clinical studies show significant reductions in the length of hospital stay of up to 42%.

Patients all around the world are benefiting from the enormous medical and economic benefits of Deltex Medical`s technology -- CardioQTMs have already been sold into over 30 countries. With the positive support of many of the world`s leading medical experts in anaesthesia and critical care, Deltex Medical expects that haemodynamic optimization will become a global standard medical practice.

Deltex Medical intends to maintain and develop its market leading position and to build a substantial business as the wider medical community embraces the principles of haemodynamic optimization. Deltex Medical`s shares are traded in London on the Alternative Investment Market.

Haemodynamic Monitor

Haemodynamic Optimization

Deltex Medical manufactures and markets the CardioQTM haemodynamic monitor, which uses disposable ultra-sound probes inserted into the oesophagus to determine the amount of blood being pumped around the body – `circulating blood volume`. Reduced circulating blood volume is known as hypovolaemia, which leads to insufficient oxygen being delivered to the organs. This causes medical complications including peripheral and major organ failure, which can lead to death.

Hypovolaemia, which is akin to severe dehydration, affects virtually every patient having surgery because of the combined effects of pre-operative starvation, the impact of the anaesthetic agents and trauma from the surgery itself. Using fluids and drugs, guided by the CardioQTM, to optimise the amount of circulating blood significantly reduces post-operative complications allowing patients to make a faster, more complete recovery and return home earlier.

The CardioQTM incorporates the company`s proprietary software and a small diameter, easy-to-use, minimally invasive, disposable oesophageal probe that is used for transmitting and receiving an ultra-sound signal. By using this technology, the CardioQTM provides clinicians with the ability to haemodynamically optimise critically ill patients and those undergoing routine moderate to major surgery through the controlled administration of fluid and drugs. Haemodynamic optimization has been scientifically proven to improve the speed and quality of patient recovery and reduce hospital stay.

Deltex Medical manufactures the premium solution for cardiac output monitoring and fluid management in critical care and medium to long duration surgery.

DP240 Oesophageal Doppler Probe is ideal for:

  • Pre and Peri-optimization for surgery
  • ITU monitoring
  • Single probe to follow patients from A&E into theatre then ITU
  • Peri and Post surgical optimization in medium duration surgery
  • Provides the flexibility to place nasally or orally depending on patient indications
  • and/or clinical preference

The Deltex Medical CardioQ, or the Oesophageal Doppler Monitor is a continuous, beat to beat, minimally invasive, cardiac output and fluid status monitor which allows:

  • Rapid assessment of patient`s cardiac output and haemodynamic status
  • Immediate diagnosis of changes in the patient`s cardiac condition and haemodynamic status
  • Immediate feedback on the effects of therapeutic intervention
  • Continuous display of cardiac output and stroke volume
  • Visual, auditory and quantitative representation of aortic blood flow

The awake solution for cardiac ouput monitoring and fluid management in any awake patient environment

ADP12/48/72 Awake Doppler Probes are ideal for:

  • Peri-operative optimization
  • HDU optimization and monitoring
  • Outreach programmes
  • Accident & emergency fluid management
  • CCU monitoring

Oesophageal Doppler Monitor

Cardiac Output Monitoring

The Deltex Medical CardioQTM uses a minimally invasive approach to the routine measurement of cardiac output allowing for the safe monitoring of fluid optimization.
All of the probes are sleeved in a non-toxic latex free silicon rubber. The highly flexible nature of the probe allows it to be inserted through either the nose or mouth.

The lateral stiffness created by the design of the probe, allows the probe to be positioned easily through rotating precisely without twisting the sleeve. All of our probes are single use design, therefore any cross contamination risks associated with the cleaning of probes due to multiple use is removed.

Deltex Medical is proud of its enviable safety and quality history, which has been established through having over 1,000 CardioQ`s and 200,000 probes used in hospitals worldwide without any significant incidents. Deltex Medical also maintains the following standards for regulatory and quality purposes: CE, FDA & CSA.

The Deltex Medical CardioQ is extremely easy to use with full expertise of this product typically developed within five procedures. The minimally invasive nature of the technology makes the solution ideal for nurse led protocols. A study dated 8 July 2004 published by the British Medical Journal has concluded that nurse led optimization of patient using the CardioQ resulted in patients leaving hospital two days earlier than those whose treatment was managed traditionally.

The Doppler probes are easily placed in the oesophagus either orally or via the nasal route with the haemodynamic status of the patient clearly presented on the CardioQ monitor immediately a signal is found (usually within 2 to 3 minutes).

Deltex Medical has a range of Doppler probes available for adult sedated and awake patients as well as paediatric patients. Each of the probes has depth markers to ensure that the probe is inserted to the optimal depth for measurement. Deltex Medical provides lifetime training support free of charge to its customers using a 15 strong, sales and clinical training team in the UK. Local support will vary depending on the country.

Improving patient outcome by fluid optimization guided by the CardioQTM has been demonstrated to result in significant cost savings due to the patients leaving hospital quicker and in better condition than they would otherwise.

The clinical literature contains over 70 published clinical trials using the Deltex Medical Oesophageal Doppler Technology of the CardioQTM. This literature reports an average reduction in hospital stay of in excess of 33%. The savings in hospital stay range from 19% to as high as 44%.

Depending on the management strategies in place, these savings could be directed to reducing waiting lists, or decreasing occupancy or reinvested in surgical care beds to improve post operative care. A formal post-procurement review by Medway NHS Trust (the ``Trust``) on the impact of the wide scale use of Deltex Medical`s CardioQTM system was carried out early in 2004. The Trust`s conclusion was that the average reductions in length of hospital stay of approximately two days per patient across a wide range of surgical procedures could be attributed directly to the use of the CardioQTM.

As a result, the Trust has stated that its managers, anaesthetists and surgeons will now work together to ensure that the use of the CardioQTM is established as a standard of care on as many as possible of the 7,500 moderate and major risk surgical patients treated by the Trust each year. This Trust is therefore able to quickly improve clinical outcomes whilst benefiting from significantly better economic performance by using the CardioQTM system.

Deltex Medical is willing to continue to work with its customers to help demonstrate the level of cost savings made in the hospitals using a number of tools that we have developed.
